80,000 Chinook salmon smolts were released successfully this afternoon at Pillar Point Harbor. Come back soon for a video of the event.

Fishermen involved in an effort to boost the local salmon population are scheduled to receive a truckload of juveniles this afternoon at Pillar Point Harbor, according to Jim Anderson, a Half Moon Bay commercial fisherman involved in the project.

The baby salmon — also known as smolts — are arriving from the Feather River Hatchery in Oroville and will be installed in net pens at the harbor.

Anderson and other fishermen from the local Coastside Fishing Club have been working on the project since last fall after receiving state funding.
