The DIDSON is a valuable new tool to evaluate fish presence and behavior in water that is too dark or turbid to observe them visually. Most researchers design and build their own mounting hardware to meet the needs of their particular application. We developed an apparatus that mounts to the side of the boat and allows us to deploy it easily throughout the day as we travel from location to location. Keeping the unit steady underwater is key to getting high resolution images.
