rotary screw trap duskLast month we finished up the juvenile salmonid outmigration monitoring season at rotary screw trapping sites in the Central Valley. At this point in the year we have an all-too-brief reprieve in our migration monitoring. In June and July the trap cones were raised and we began annual trap maintenance. In this particular case, the trap was removed from the river, cleaned, repaired and stored for next year. This month will be spent summarizing data and submitting reports. Before we know it, Labor Day will be here and we will begin installing the weirs to monitor the fall-run Chinook salmon that will migrate upstream to spawn. Then, Halloween is right around the corner, and we must prepare the first screw trap for another sampling season.
