Up all night…

While water managers release excess water from Sierra Nevada reservoirs in order to make room for winter rains, the higher than normal downstream flows are making salmon monitoring more challenging. High flows tend to wash large amounts of woody debris and plant material downstream on to our fish counting weir. During these periods of heavy debris, technicians must be present around-the-clock to ensure the fish counting weir continues to function properly and the Vaki Riverwatcher continues to record all salmon migrating upriver to spawn.
