The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Fisheries Branch is seeking 6 motivated individuals to work as Scientific Aids on the Heritage and Wild Trout Program’s statewide field crew. This position is based out of the West Sacramento Field Station and provides the opportunity to travel throughout the state surveying California’s wild trout resources. This position requires outstanding initiative, a firm background in fisheries biology, and an ability to work as part of a team in remote locations for extended periods of time.

Successful candidates will perform field-based fisheries assessments of wild and threatened trout populations. Survey techniques include: drought impact assessment, fire impact assessment, electrofishing, snorkeling, angling, collection of scales and genetic tissue, gill netting, collection of benthic macroinvertebrates, and creel census.
