Location: Jonesboro, Maine
Description: The Maine Dept. of Marine Resources (DMR) Division of Sea-run Fisheries and Habitat is looking for suitable candidates to fill seasonal biological field technician positions for the upcoming field season. The duration of the position extends from April through November (approximately 8 months). Successful applicants will work for DMR monitoring smolt runs (April through June) and then work for Project SHARE conducting habitat assessments and restoration projects (July and August). Successful applicants will return to DMR (September through November) to assist in fall juvenile salmon electrofishing assessments, barrier removal, and spawner surveys.
Responsibilities: Work includes but is not limited to: sampling out-migrating Atlantic salmon smolts using rotary screw traps, electrofishing, operating adult salmon traps, and conducting redd counts; quantifying salmon habitat features; conducting in-stream habitat restoration and participating in other fieldwork as needed. Additional responsibilities include equipment maintenance and repair, maintaining office functions, and data entry. All work will be based out of the Jonesboro office of DMR.
Qualifications: Work is performed in rugged, remote areas. Experience canoeing and general outdoor skills are desired. Good driving record is required.
Salary: $15/hour
