This is professional services work implementing scientific and restoration projects focused on native diadromous or “Sea-Run” species in Maine. Primary responsibilities of this position will be to: 1) Oversee and implement a new adult salmon stocking program and monitor its efficacy in an adaptive framework, 2) Assist others in monitoring diadromous fish populations statewide by recruiting, training, and supporting citizen scientists to monitor selected species in their local rivers and streams, and 3) assist in developing new restoration opportunities for Sea-Run species statewide. These efforts will involve substantial coordination, engagement, and outreach with federal, state, tribal, NGO, academic, industry, and local partners. This work includes the maintenance and management of monitoring records and data and overall data stewardship for the use of the broader restoration and management community. Additional responsibilities may include assisting the Department with ongoing restoration, monitoring, and enhancement work for salmon, river herring, rainbow smelt, and other diadromous species.
