Research Fish Biologist

Responsibilities

As a Research Fish Biologist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Conduct and support the Alaska Bottom Trawl Surveys as a biologist, Deck Lead, or Field Party Chief; and apply knowledge of survey design and sampling principles to conduct research trawls, collect accurate data, and validate data with computer assisted applications.
  • Conduct independent and team research supporting the development of new and improved mathematical and statistical models for estimating abundance of groundfish in Alaska.
  • Evaluate the relationship between the physical, chemical, and biological interactions of marine ecosystems and the living marine resources.
  • Prepare written results detailing the data, methods, and outcomes of the research; contribute to and write specialized reports, peer-reviewed papers and publications; and present oral and poster presentations.

Travel Required

25% or less – Up to 25% of foreign and domestic travel may be required.
