Description: The Science Manager at Los Amigos Biological Station will report to and coordinate with ACCA’s Science Director who oversees the biological stations at Los Amigos, ManuBio, Wayqecha and research conducted in the Los Amigos Conservation Concession. In addition, she/he will coordinate scientific activities closely and smoothly with the on-site Station Manager and the promotores /park rangers at the Conservation Concession. The Director will have peers/colleagues in ACCA’s Science Director, the Science Managers at ManuBio and Wayqecha, as well as a diverse community of scientists at the Station.

Responsibilities: Direct and implement their own research project(s) aligned with ACCA’s science and conservation strategy.

Review and build the station’s research plan, identify funding opportunities and help develop research and funding proposals.

Develop and implement strategies to attract researchers, courses and other potential users of the Biological Station and the Conservation Concession.

Provide technical and logistical support to the researchers, fellows, students, volunteers and courses at the biological station.

Manage and update science databases, build and manage key institutional relationships, and represent Conservación Amazónica – ACCA and Los Amigos Biological Station at meetings and via presentations.

Manage the station’s research fellowship program and provide mentorship to students.

Prepare innovative communication materials.

Any other work inherent to his position.

Qualifications: Biologist, Ecologist or related field with at least 3 years of experience in scientific

field work in remote Andean-Amazonian environments.

PhD is preferred

Deep commitment to conservation, biodiversity science, and collaboration

Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English.

Ability to work in a team and in culturally diverse environments.

Must be able to swim.

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel to create and maintain databases.

Basic knowledge of computer programs for biological data analysis (GIS programs such as QGis, ArcGis, and data analysis programs such as Maxent, Distance, R) is desirable.

Knowledge in the use of applied conservation technologies (radiocollars, camera traps, others) and/or experience working in a molecular laboratory is a plus.

Drone pilot license is a plus.
