Description: The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Aquatics Invasive Species (AIS) Division as a European Green Crab (EGC) Response Technician, Scientific Technician 2. The EGC Scientific Technician works within the AIS program to support prevention, monitoring, and control of EGC within and adjacent to DNR-owned aquatic lands, including Natural Area Preserves, Natural Resource Conservation Areas, and Aquatic Reserves. This position may also assist with other AIS treatment programs, including but not limited to Spartina, flowering rush, yellow flag iris, purple loosestrife, and knotweed throughout the State. This position will be working with an innovative team on ecologically diverse aquatic lands and helping protect critical habitats from invasive species. These are field positions, and much of the work is aboard a boat in various weather conditions and/or traversing rugged terrain in a variety of aquatic and nearshore environments.
Responsibilities:
- Assists other technicians or volunteers in field work consisting of European Green Crab (EGC), prospecting and assessment monitoring, and control projects in the vicinity of DNR’s Natural Areas, Natural Resource Conservation Areas, Aquatic Reserves, and other prioritized lands.
- Ensures that all necessary agency field safety protocols are followed.
- Develops a strategy for completing all assigned work by target dates, coordinating with supervisor and program staff.
- Proficient in Field Maps, Survey123, QuickCapture, and ArcGIS Online for data collection and submittal.
- Ensures accuracy of data collection and database entry.
- Follows guidelines and procedures closely to ensure appropriate data standards are met.
- Performs survey, identification, and control of invasive plant and animal species.
Qualifications:
- Experience using organization and logistical skills to complete required field work in a marine environment.
- Two years of laboratory or field experience in a natural resources field, including working with field crews or carrying out scientific monitoring.
