Join our dynamic team as a Seasonal Biological Technician based in Eugene, Oregon. This full-time role is focused on conducting crucial fieldwork involving the tagging, biological sampling, and release of juvenile Chinook salmon throughout the Upper Willamette River Basin. You’ll be actively involved in various tasks from PIT and Elastomer tagging to monitoring and transporting fish, all while working in the beautiful natural settings of Oregon’s waterways. This position is ideal for those with a passion for fisheries and hands-on environmental fieldwork.

Responsibilities:

Conduct PIT-tagging and elastomer (VIE) tagging on juvenile Chinook salmon.

Measure and weigh fish, and record biological information.

Monitor health and condition of tagged fish; transport and release them into their natural habitats.

Collect and analyze limnological parameters such as water temperature, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity.

Operate various types of nets (seine, fyke, box minnow trap, and gill nets) for sampling fish in reservoirs.

Handle boat operations and perform data entry and routine quality assurance/quality control of field data.

Maintain and prepare field equipment and supplies for tagging and sampling activities.

Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve field challenges.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate coursework or degree in Fisheries Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

Valid class C driver’s license and ability to operate a boat and trailer.

Comfortable with fieldwork that includes lifting up to 50 pounds, swimming, and wading in water.

Experience with fish tagging techniques (PIT and elastomer tagging preferred).

Familiarity with Pacific Northwest fish species and biology.

First Aid certification is a plus.

Salary: $19-$22 per hour
