Description: The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board has an opening for a permanent, full-time Water Resource Control Engineer in the Compliance and Enforcement Section. This is an opportunity to do meaningful and challenging work to protect the water quality resources in the Los Angeles Region. The position location is 320 W. 4th Street, Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90013.
Responsibilities: The Water Resource Engineer is responsible for conducting inspections, writing inspection reports, collecting evidence for violations and enforcement actions; performing engineering calculations related to discharges of stormwater and sediment from facilities and construction sites. Providing timely and professional reports and enforcement actions to the unit supervisor for review. Reviewing engineering plans including stormwater pollution prevention plans, erosion control plans, treatment systems designs, and maintenance designs and developing enforcement actions, reviewing data, and evaluating best management practice effectiveness. Excellent communication skills are required. Daily proficient utilization of office equipment and the Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Qualifications: Equivalent to graduation from college with a bachelors or advanced degree curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology with major work in environmental, chemical, sanitary, mechanical, agricultural, geotechnical, or civil engineering, or a related engineering discipline. (If the Accreditation Board accredits any engineering curriculum for Engineering in the institution from which the degree is earned, all engineering curricula from that institution will be considered accredited.) Possession of equivalent qualifications may be demonstrated by graduation from an unaccredited curriculum in any of the above specialized engineering fields, which includes the basic engineering courses normally covered in a standard four-year course, and by qualifying in a written examination covering water quality control engineering. (Registration as a Senior or graduate student in any of the above specialized engineering fields will admit the applicant to the examination, but they must produce evidence of graduation before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)
