FISHBIO organized Chico’s first 5K Salmon Run to mark the first ever World Fish Migration Day. This community event highlighted the epic journeys of migratory fish, and celebrated Chico’s most spectacular outdoor setting. The fun run and walk covered a scenic 5-km loop through Bidwell Park that traveled along Big Chico Creek, an important local fish migration corridor that hosts steelhead and spring- and fall-run Chinook salmon. The event included prizes for the fastest runners in a range of categories, a raffle, and kids activities such as games, fly casting lessons, and face painting. The race was held in partnership with Fleet Feet Sports and included sponsorships from Klean Kanteen and other local businesses. Thanks to a successful turnout from the community, FISHBIO looks forward to hosting this event again.
