Nothing is better than enjoying the fruits (or veggies) of your garden labor in the summer. This year we gambled and planted our vegetable garden early because of the abnormally warm temperatures we experienced in March. Now, we are harvesting tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and zucchinis in June! Our veggie boxes are also yielding piles of potatoes and fat onions. The branches of our fruit trees are growing heavy, and it’s all we can do to keep up with the harvest of apricots, nectarines, and figs. The hops we planted have climbed their way up the sides of our chicken coop, inspiring our in-house beer masters to start making plans for some creative home brews here at “FISHBIO Farms.”
With all the fresh produce being harvested, “Salsa Mondays” are quickly becoming a common occurrence at our Oakdale office. We take our salsa making very seriously at FISHBIO, with over 20 varieties of peppers planted in our garden – the most popular preference being “the hotter, the better.” As the summer temperatures grow warmer and our pepper yield increases, so will our creativity. One of our favorite dishes is grilled stuffed peppers, but you never know until you bite into one what kind of heat it’s packing. With about a dozen new varieties of peppers that we have yet to taste, the garden gamble continues!
