FISHBIO has surgically implanted acoustic transmitters into more than 10,000 juvenile salmon, juvenile steelhead, and adult rainbow trout/steelhead for numerous studies. Such acoustic telemetry methods help to evaluate fish survival and behavior in tributary streams, mainstem rivers, and estuaries. Our experience ranges from tagging small groups of wild, ESA-protected fish in remote environments using portable surgical stations, to leading large, multi-agency operations at hatcheries to tag, transport, acclimate, and release thousands of fish.
