Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) announced that he secured over $48 million in federal funding for 18 projects across the greater Sacramento region in the bipartisan FY 2023 appropriations package. The bill now heads to both chambers of Congress for final passage and then on to the President to be signed into law.
“I am proud to have secured funding for projects across the Sacramento region to strengthen flood protection, address the housing crisis, and improve safe, reliable transit options,” Senator Padilla said. “This funding will support local governments and community organizations that work to directly benefit our neighborhoods. Critical investments in equitable educational programs will provide economic opportunity to those who need it most. Federal dollars will also be used for wildlife conservation efforts to ensure the long-term environmental health of the region.”
Projects across the Sacramento region that will receive federal funding through the FY 2023 Appropriations Omnibus include:
- $7.8 million for Sacramento River Basin Floodplain Reactivation
This funding will continue efforts to reactivate historic floodplains in the Sacramento River Basin to build resiliency in California’s natural infrastructure and water systems by: supporting the abundant return of migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway; revitalizing river food webs and supporting the recovery of salmon populations; recharging groundwater aquifers; and improving flood protection.
