More than 3,000 mangrove trees were planted last week in five tourism and fishing communities in Kampot and Kep provinces aimed to promote biodiversity in the water, environmental protection and attract tourists to the coastal provinces.

Keut Mattrohet, Aide et Actions Regional Manager, said the five tourism and fishing communities are Trapaing Sangke community, Kampong Samakky community, O’Krosar community, Kampong Tralach community, and Phumi Thmey community.

He said that local authorities, community members, volunteer youths and students from universities in Kep and Kampot provinces were involved in planting the trees.

He added that this week’s reforestation activity is not the usual mangrove planting but will use trees more than one year old.
