The Water Management District and Cal Am are looking to make improvements to the Los Padres Dam on the Carmel River.

Both organizations claim that in about 100 years, the dam will be full of sediment and currently, steelhead fish can’t navigate it without human intervention.

“It’s aging, and it’s pretty clear that it needs some fish passage improvements,” said Thomas Christensen with the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District.

However, it is still undecided what those improvements will look like.

“There’s still no decision made. We still have two studies that are in the process of being done,” said Josh Stratton with California American Water.
