A massive Mekong Giant Catfish has been released back into nature.
The Freshwater Fisheries Research and Development Institute of the Fisheries Administration, in collaboration with the Mekong River Wonders Project, released the Mekong Giant Catfish into a natural lake on December 6, 2024.
The Mekong Giant Catfish, weighing 132 kilograms and measuring more than 2 meters in length, was in good health and was accidentally caught by fishermen at Fish Pond No. 3A (Phnom Penh), according to the Ministry of Information.
A team from the Freshwater Fisheries Research and Development Institute of the Fisheries Administration and the Mekong River Wonders Project re-tagged and safely released the Mekong Giant Catfish back into the natural lake for the purpose of studying and monitoring its movement and habitat during the dry season.
