A dolphin calf was found by a team from the Kratie Fisheries Administration on the afternoon of June 15 and experts believe it was born recently.

Kratie Provincial Fisheries Administration Director Mok Ponlok said that the team from the fisheries administration photographed the calf on June 15 at Anlong Kampi in Kampi village, Sambok commune, Chit Borey district in Kratie province.

According to experts, the newborn calf is estimated to be only five days old and was found swimming in a pod with five other adult dolphins. This is the fourth dolphin calf to be recorded from January to June this year.

Seng Teak, World Wildlife Fund-Cambodia (WWF-Cambodia) country director, said on his Facebook page: “The warmest welcome to the 4th newborn of 2023 to the Mekong dolphin family. The arrival of this new calf is super exciting and it’s a moment of pride – newborns represent life, hope and aspiration.”
