Around 100 Yolo County residents including indigenous community members, and UC Davis students and professors filled the main room of Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer in Woodland on Saturday.

They were there to learn more about — and stand up against — multinational building-materials company Cemex’s proposal for a 20-year deep-pit mining permit along Cache Creek to mine for sand, gravel and crushed stone — used for regional construction projects like roads, schools, and homes — across more than 500 acres of floodplain.
