CHEK News —
Two coho salmon carcasses were found days apart last week along a small section of creek in Oak Bay, which could mean that the once-abundant species is making a return.
Gerald Harris thought it was the carcass of a chum salmon that one of his volunteers had spotted last week along a small section of Bowker Creek.
For the last four years, the director at Friends of Bowker Creek has been installing chum salmon incubators along the creek as part of its restoration process.
However, when he sent a photo to a contact within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), it turned out to be a coho salmon.
“Just confusion. Of course, we were very excited,” said Harris.
