The federal government is spending more than $5,000,000 for four tribal water projects in the Klamath River Basin.  The U.S. Secretary of the Interior visited Siskiyou County today to announce that investment.

During her visit today to the Klamath River, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said the U.S. Department of the Interior will spend $5,800,000 on those four Tribal water projects in Oregon and California’s Klamath River Basin through the Bureau of Reclamation to restore aquatic ecosystems, improve resilience of habitats and mitigate effects of ongoing drought. The funding is available through the Bureau of Reclamation’s Native American Affairs Technical Assistance to Tribes Program.

Secretary Haaland’s Office says she shared the announcement while touring the Iron Gate Fish Hatchery with California Governor Gavin Newsom, Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Congressman Jared Huffman, Klamath Basin tribal representatives and other officials and stakeholders “to celebrate the imminent surrender and decommissioning of the Lower Klamath Project, a four-dam hydropower project on the Klamath River.”
