There are still giants in the rivers. During our surveys of salmon carcasses on the Stanislaus River this season, we came upon this massive male Chinook salmon that measured more than one meter long! All salmon die after they spawn – we can only wonder what this big guy saw during his life time. As a two-for-one on this Photo Friday, the photo below is the winner of our staff Photo of the Month contest for December, and provides another perspective on the salmon circle of life.
