Late summer is typically the time when we suit up and hit the streams for our annual rainbow trout surveys on multiple Central Valley rivers. The surveys have been a bit upended along with everything else during this unprecedented year, as smoke from massive wildfires in recent weeks has obscured the sun and reduced the visibility we need to conduct these visual fish counts. But with some breaks in the weather, we are able to get out in the water and keep adding to important long-term data sets on the health of our local fish populations.
