Salmon smolts from below
We can’t speak for all fisheries biologists, but even when we are off on family vacations we tend to gravitate toward fish-related activities – especially now that school’s out. Recently, one of our biologists visited the Seattle Aquarium with his family. While perusing the numerous exhibits, partaking in the touch pool, spying on the giant Pacific octopus, and being entranced by the moon jellies, he and his family made their way to the lower-level exhibit featuring fish of Puget Sound. It was there in the salmon exhibit that the aqua-blue glow of the transparent celling caught their attention. Seizing the opportunity, he snapped this mesmerizing photo of hundreds of salmon smolts suspended above, swimming in the glow of the natural sunlight on that overcast day.
