When word got out a boat trip was in the works to see the World Series from San Francisco Bay, suddenly everyone in the office was a baseball fan. Some of the luckier among us joined hundreds of Giants fans floating in McCovey Cove, just beyond the right field of AT&T Park, for Games 1 & 2 of the 2010 World Series. Fans in rafts and kayaks (and an occasional inflatable mattress), armed with fishing nets, gathered close to the Portwalk in hopes of getting a chance to scoop up a home run. “Splash Hits,” as they are officially known, are home runs hit by Giants into McCovey Cove without hitting the Arcade or Portwalk. They are rare these days, with Barry Bonds in the stands, since he hit 35 of the total 55. Despite the lack of Splash Hits during the games, we had a great time with food and friends. Hopefully, there won’t be a Game 6 back in San Francisco on Wednesday, but if there is we won’t complain.
