The purchase of a 511 pound tuna for $175,000 at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo the other day was the highest price paid for a tuna in nine years. Bluefin tuna prices have been increasing recently due to declining abundance and more restrictive fishing pressures.
The photo is the front of a closed retail fish stall around the corner from the largest wholesale fish market in the world. A lot of the stalls were closed on this particular Sunday morning and all were similarly decorated. The neighborhood has some of the best, and cheapest, sushi in the world.
