Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) announced yesterday the discovery of a newborn Irrawaddy dolphin calf in the Kampi deep pool, marking a hopeful milestone for the critically endangered species.
The baby dolphin was born on February 14 and was first spotted and photographed three days later by a joint research team from the Fisheries Administration and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) during routine monitoring. With this new arrival, the total population of Mekong Irrawaddy dolphins has increased to 113 individuals.
