The Lahontan Water Board’s Regulatory and Enforcement Unit has one Scientific Aid opening. The position is located at 2501 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) and Senior Water Resource Control Engineer, the Scientific Aid will work with the technical staff in the South Lake Tahoe Office. Consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Water Board’s Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous and to provide timely responses to internal and external customers, to follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal and external customer input when completing work assignments.
Responsibilities: Review environmental impact reports and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents associated with timber, forestry, stream restoration, and grazing projects and preparing preliminary comments.
Document violations and enforcement actions through database entry.
Assist with technical, regulatory, and administrative procedures related to monitoring report submittal and follow up.
Update facility data and uploading documents to various databases.
Assist in the preparation for field inspections by organizing sample collection equipment, documenting sample locations on maps and compiling file information.
Assist with field investigations, including collecting water samples, and making field measurements, taking field notes and photographs, and preparing inspection reports.
Complete chain-of custody forms for samples collected and preparing samples for delivery or shipment to a contract laboratory.
Use Excel, Power Point, ArcGIS, and other software tools to prepare maps, graphs, tables, and other visual representations of site data.
Qualifications: Possession of a valid driver license of the appropriate class issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Applicants who do not possess the license will be admitted to the examination but must secure the license prior to appointment. and Education: Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum of 10 semester hours in relevant scientific course work, i.e., pest management, environmental studies, entomology, or agricultural sciences.
