A new survey of fishing communities in Kratie and Stung Treng provinces reveals growing concern about the sustainability of resources and prospects.

The Cambodian Youth Network Association (CYN) said that according to their survey of communities in Kratie and Stung Treng provinces, many local fisheries are reporting declines in fish populations and catches.

Local fishermen claim the declining fish population is due to illegal fishing and neglect of preventive measures by authorities.

Head of Research and Advocacy Program of CYN, Heng Kimhong, said that the survey was a seven-month study conducted from August  last year to the end of  last month. It recorded face-to-face interviews with more than 120 key individuals.
