A river restoration project led by the Yurok Tribe and project partners will temporarily affect whitewater rafting and other recreation on a 1.25-mile stretch of the Klamath River near McConnell Bar. The project area extends from the confluence of Humbug Creek and ends downstream near the river’s confluence with Brushy Creek.
The restoration is designed to repair damage caused by historic mining practices and the devastating McKinney Fire of 2022. Heavy rainfall following the fire triggered flooding and debris flows that carried large amounts of sediment into the Klamath River, severely impacting fish habitat, water quality, and river access.
