Yuba Water Agency has begun removing sediment on the riverbank below New Colgate Powerhouse following a penstock pipe rupture last month. The work started on Friday and is expected to last for several weeks, with completion targeted for June 1.

Crews will remove an estimated 60,000 cubic yards of sediment that entered the North Yuba River when water from the ruptured penstock carried soil, rock, and debris down the hillside on Feb. 13. The rupture created 2 large sediment fans on either side of the powerhouse.
