The Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency has received a $32 million grant from the state of California to restore a more natural river channel on gravel mining tailings along the Feather River at Oroville.

The project is located just downstream of Highway 162.

Plans are to excavate and reshape approximately 51 acres of former mining tailings to restore a more natural river channel complete with side channels, riffles, gravel bars, and seasonal floodplain habitat, according to a statement from SBFCA.
