Small, silvery fish are expected to come ashore in Southern California for several days in March, making for a unique sight — and an opportunity to go fishing.
California grunion will leave the water to spawn on beaches where their eggs will incubate in the sand and hatch more than a week later, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. This phenomenon is known as a grunion run, said the CDFW.
