Snow is piled high at Mount Rose Summit, but the area still has less snow than most years.

The Tahoe basin snowpack currently sits at 84% of normal, with the Truckee basin at 88%.

In his second to last snow survey of 2025, hydrologist Jeff Anderson says the area has benefitted greatly from the storms in February.

“At the end of January our snowpack was around 60% of normal,” he mentioned. “Fortunately, February came in much wetter than normal with some really good snow amounts.”

Bill Hauck of Truckee Meadows Water Authority made a point to attend Monday’s snow survey, and says he isn’t worried about a lack of water supply this year.

“Lake Tahoe is already three-quarters of the way full,” Hauck said. “It’s projected to rise another foot.”
