A salmon habitat restoration project that will also provide public access to the Methow River in Twisp took a step forward last week, when the Twisp Town Council authorized the acting mayor to sign agreements with Yakama Nation to acquire four privately owned parcels threatened by Methow River flooding.

Property owners Jack Bynum, Richard Diseth, and Peter and Jennifer Day — who own two parcels — are ready to sell their land to Yakama Nation, project manager Madeline Eckmann told the council at its Feb. 10 meeting. The tribal confederation would immediately transfer the properties to the town, according to one of the contracts council members approved at the meeting.
