REDDING, Calif. — Turtle Bay Exploration Park is drawing attention to its ongoing Chinook salmon conservation efforts as part of its weekly “Turtle Bay Tuesday,” offering the community a closer look at how the park is helping protect a threatened species.
The park is currently home to 400 late fall–run Chinook salmon being raised in partnership with the Coleman National Fish Hatchery. By keeping the fish at Turtle Bay for nearly a year, staff say the salmon are able to grow larger and stronger before being released into the Sacramento River, giving them a better chance of survival.
