The new research, from the university and the UK Government’s Centre for Environment, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), shows the threat is the result of warming seas and commercial fishing.

The study focused on the Northeast Atlantic and found marine predators like cod, haddock and thorny skate are being forced to eat less energy-dense food in heavily fished and warmer waters.
