Sara Hugentobler

Fisheries Biologist

Sara Hugentobler is a fisheries biologist with experience in statistical modeling and analysis, particularly in genetic data analysis. She earned a Bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Utah and a Master’s in Marine Conservation and Policy from SUNY Stony Brook. Sara holds a PhD in Integrative Biology from Michigan State University, with a dual major in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior and a specialization in Environmental Science and Public Policy. Her dissertation focused on using genetic tools to monitor and conserve Central Valley Chinook salmon populations and included projects in the Yolo Bypass, Yuba River, and across the entire basin.

At FISHBIO, Sara is contributing her expertise to projects related to Chinook salmon in the Central Valley, assisting with data analysis and visualization. She is currently involved in biological monitoring efforts of spring-run salmon in the Tuolumne River. She is proficient in the programming language R and has used bash scripting to process and analyze large datasets using high performance computing clusters.
