Incline Plane Traps are a specialized device used to capture out-migrating juvenile fish, particularly in low flow water conditions where traditional methods, like rotary screw traps, are less effective. IPTs consist of a sloping structure that funnels fish into a live box (collection area), taking advantage of the fish’s natural upstream movement. IPTs are commonly used to monitor fish populations, migration patterns, and species diversity among juvenile fish and provide valuable data for conservation efforts and fisheries management.

FISHBIO fabricated and assisted in installation of the first IPT in California to support a salmon re-introduction feasibility assessment program on the North Fork of the Feather River.
