In today’s Film Friday, we get a glimpse into the fish counting weir installation process. This portable resistance weir is being used to count individual adult fish migrating upstream during the spawning season on the Carmel River in California. Portable resistance weirs such as this one are an effective way to monitor fish populations without installing a permanent one. At the beginning of each season, the weir is installed and then removed once the season is over. The weir can be installed at the beginning of the season and removed at the end. At FISHBIO, our fabrication shop allows our team to customize a weir to fit any river, including this one!
