Description:

This full-time Senior Biological Technician position is available at our Fish Ecology Lab in Eugene, Oregon. The role is pivotal for leading field crews in various ecological and conservation activities, particularly related to fish sampling and stream habitat surveys. The candidate will also develop sampling protocols and manage data. This position is ideal for individuals with a background in biology, ecology, or natural resources who are passionate about fish conservation and have experience in fieldwork.

Responsibilities:

Lead and assist field crews on multiple projects, including training and delegating tasks to both permanent and seasonal technicians to support project objectives and data collection.

Conduct hands-on fieldwork, which may include stream habitat surveys, snorkel surveys, electrofishing, netting, fish tagging and trapping, and related environmental activities.

Manage field logistics, including equipment purchases and maintenance, organizing gear for field projects, and coordinating scheduling, lodging, and travel for field teams.

Manage, perform QA/QC, and summarize data using software packages such as Excel, GIS, and R.

Conduct literature reviews to support project understanding and development.

Handle field sampling permits and other regulatory compliance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Forestry, Biology, or a related science field.

At least 2 years of professional experience in a relevant field.

Proficiency in Excel and Word.

Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Fisheries, Forestry, Biology, or a related science field.

Experience using R and QGIS for data analysis.

Experience with field sampling in various environments, including reservoirs, and familiarity with freshwater mussels and macroinvertebrates.

Certification or experience in wetland environments.

Experience in operating various types of boats in river settings, with a boater operator license.

Project Management Certification.

Salary: $25-29 per hour
