The Biden Administration announced it plans to spend over $1 billion over the next 10 years to increase the salmon population in the Snake River, but this is stirring up a lot of controversy for supporters of hydropower and the dams.

While President Biden did not call for the removal of the dams in the announcement made Thursday, the latest information has several tribes, including the Confederated Tribes of both the Yakama Nation and Umatilla Indian Reservation, saying that’s not off the table just yet.

The agreement was filed in Oregon and puts a pause into effect on litigation over Federal operation of the dams.

Conservation groups sued the Federal government in an effort to save several species of fish and point to the dams specifically on the Snake River as to reasons behind the decline.
