Our staff really enjoy educational outreach opportunities that let us interact with students, and receiving a thoughtful and creative piece of art like this one is added bonus that puts a smile on our faces. We received this wonderful fish card from a class at Ophir Elementary School in Oroville, Calif, after we took them out to the stream in Chico to show them how to survey for aquatic insects, an important source of fish food.
The students wrote: “Dear Fish Bio Scientists, Thank you for teaching us how salmon grow. Also, thank you for teaching us how salmon fish swim up stream. We really enjoyed investigating macro-invertebrates, especially when we saw how many different shapes and sizes the insects were. From Mrs. Brackmann’s Class. Thank you.” We’re glad the experience was as fun for the students as it was for us!
