Sython and fishing net
We’re pleased to welcome Sython Phetdaoheuang as the newest fisheries biologist at our FISHBIO Lao office, as our business in Lao PDR continues to grow. Sython has extensive experience and a variety of relevant skills from working with the Nam Thuen 2 Power Company for the past seven years on international standard recognition for hydropower development in Laos. Sython speaks Lao, Thai and English, and graduated with a master’s degree in Aquatic Resource and Aquaculture Management from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand, where he studied the development of aquaculture seed production techniques for the catfishes Hemibagrus nemurus and H. filamentus.
Sython in the lab
Sython has a wide range of experiences in water quality monitoring, laboratory work, and aquatic monitoring in reservoirs and downstream of dams, including fish species, zooplankton, phytoplankton, and macro invertebrates. He has also worked with local fishers and government counterparts as part of fisheries monitoring programs. FISHBIO has taken on a number of new projects and clients in Lao PDR over the last six months, and we are excited to have Sython onboard as part of these exciting activities. Sython’s work at FISHBIO will encompass technical aspects related to fish species conservation, community consultations for establishing and monitoring Fish Conservation Zones, fish species surveys, workshops, trainings, technical reports, and networking. We are looking forward to working with Sython and learning from his experiences as part of our consultancy work in Laos.
