FISHBIO’s conference attendance continued last week with the Western Division of the American Fisheries Society Meeting in Westminster, Colorado. Talks and sessions highlighted the history of ecosystem management and habitat alterations in the United States, lessons learned from previous restoration efforts, and best practices to carry out restoration and monitoring efforts in the face of modern challenges.

Themes focusing on the need for evidence-based solutions and data-based evaluations in the restoration field were prevalent. FISHBIO presented a talk on Oncorhynchus mykiss monitoring work we carried out in Big Chico Creek and a poster on monitoring efforts of O. mykiss in the Stanislaus River. In all, we felt inspired by the work our colleagues were conducting around the nation to improve habitat for our native species!
