The recent decline of Central Valley Chinook salmon has received considerable media attention over the last few years. However, relatively little attention has been paid to the steady decline of coastal Coho. Coho salmon have different life-history characteristics and habitat requirements than Chinook, and thus require different protection and restoration measures. This KQED produced video is a good summary of some of the issues facing coho populations, and efforts to increase their abundance in northern California streams.
